A new plan for a new year

2017 was my first real blogging year and I managed to achieve quite a lot.
For a start I got the blog going, I got 154 posts down, completed one solo Pathfinder/D&D campaign, posted a few reviews and I got a solo All Things Zombie campaign started.
All and all it went pretty well. My only regret was that I wasn’t able to find the time to complete the pseudo play by email/post Pathfinder campaign. In the end I just bit off a bit more than I could chew and I wasn’t able to dedicate the time to finish it.
So for this year what’s the plan?
Well I’m pretty keen to keep posting regularly, probably at the rate of about a couple of posts a week. I’ve been a bit slack in January but I’ve had a few family issues to deal with and soon I’ll be able to get back on track.
I’ve really enjoyed the All Things Zombie campaign and I’m going to continue on with that this year but I was a bit frustrated that I can really only game with it during the weekend and only on the weekends when I’m at home.
So over the holidays I started to think that I’d like to see if I can do more wargaming whilst away from home. Fortunately I’m provided with a flat but I still need to transport wargaming gear. I got around to watching a few sci-fi movies over the holidays and it dawned on me that perhaps I should start a 5150 campaign in 15mm. Easy to transport (ie being 15mm), only need a 3m by 3m playing surface and it’s something that I could also do some modelling and painting whilst I’m away.
I started reading a few reviews and found some excellent 15mm sci fi infantry and armoured vehicles but I also found some small scale space ships and, after watching a little Battlestar Galactica, I decided to do a campaign using both 5150 Carrier Command and 5150 Battalion Commander. I’ve ordered some models and over the next little while I’ll make some terrain, paint some figures and get a few games in. It’ll be interesting to see how I progress.
So let us see how I go this year. It should be a cracker.

  1. Hi DEW I came across your blog early in December and read all the zombie campaign posts, thoroughly enjoying them. So I do hope you will be continuing that line of posts, but I can well see how personal circumstances and work will have a huge impact on what you are able to do on the hobby front.
I couldn't find a follow button apart from the G+ one, do you know if it's possible to follow without it?

    1. Hi Vagabond. Sorry mate I'm not exactly tech savvy. Took me about 2 years just to work out how to set up a blog. But I'll have a bit of a look into it and see if I can work it out.

    2. I've only just set up my blog and found it a very frustrating experience, almost as much as the way it plays with formatting, so I'm no expert. I think if you go into layout you will have a sidebar, and a + add gadget button, and if you add the followers gadget that will show who is following you and I think it will have a follow blog button as part of that gadget. I'm not totally sure that the follow button is part of the gadget but I've checked on my blog and there is no separate button gadget so I think this must be it.
I have managed to put your blog in to the blogs I read gadget on my blog so it will tell me that way when you do a new post.
      Good luck

    3. John, I was going to post a similar reply but you beat me to it. What you say is absolutely true. Not bad for a so-called novice, eh? I was also going to suggest listing Tim's blog in your own list of blogs you follow.

  2. I can fully understand your reasons for not finishing the Pathfinder campaign. The amount of work you put into it was immense. I most certainly appreciated all you did, and whilst I am sad that it has come to a halt, I wholly support and sympathise with you. It was fun whilst it lasted.

I'm so pleased that you're going to continue your ATZ campaign. As for your new 5150 sci-fi campaign, I have a load of 5150 products and it is a game system I like immensely. Whilst 28mm is my preferred scale, I can understand why you'd want to go smaller and, under the circumstances, it makes a lot of sense. I wish you all the best with it. Good luck, Tim!

    1. I must admit it was a big call for me to go 15mm. I've got so much 28mm stuff at home but still if it enables me to do some hobby stuff whilst I'm away from home than it'll be all good.

I'm looking forward to getting back into gaming. The ATZ campaign is practically writing itself and the next mission will be me seeing if I can get home (could be a short campaign if I get unlucky).

And we'll see about the sci-fi campaign. I'm still waiting for miniatures at the moment but in the mean time I've started to write up some of the background materials etc. Should be a bit of fun.

  3. Glad to hear you've got a solid plan for your portable gaming Tim, and Sci-Fi should be an interesting new project to get your teeth into.
Obviously I'm glad we've more of your excellent ATZ campaign to come, but I'm looking forward to seeing your small scale space ships and 15mm mini's too :-)

    1. Thanks for that. I think it might be a slow start to this year with a lot going on in the background but once I get going it'll be good. I'm looking forward to a few more installments from your good self as well.

I've picked up a few little space ships and it's been a nice distraction and something a bit different for me to get my teeth into. Looking not not bad at the moment.

  4. Congratulations on your achievements! 154 posts in a year is a lot of effort - it might be difficult to sustain that level...

More ATZ is always good :-) . 5150 might be interesting also; I have some titles in the series but have never done much very serious with them.

    1. Yep I was going crazy for a while pumping out a lot of posts but jeez I enjoyed it.

Been enjoying reading your blog when I get the chance. So many interests. Hahaha I imagine your war gaming room is as full as my own.

Yeah lets see where the 5150 goes. I've started to write the introduction to the campaign and have started to develop some of the characters etc and I think I've put enough easter eggs in there to keep just about everyone guessing. Plus I've decided to challenge on sci-fi world against another in the dog fighting arena. Should be a bit of fun to see who has the best fighter pilots and ships.
