As the zombie
shuffles around the house it sees the man in the hoodie. Slavering for the
taste of warm flesh it charges the human. Hoodie man pulls off a rash shot with
his pistol but misses. The zed closes in on him and tries to bite him but the
man pushes it to the ground, steps over its body and pulls the trigger, killing
the monster (after the hoodie man had knocked down the zed in hand to hand he
was activated and passed his Citizens Brown Pants test and so Popped the
Weasel).
Two zombies
charged the woman in the pink pants. It’s a desperate combat and for a while
the woman is grabbed by both zombies but then Pinkie pushes the first one to
the ground and then follows up by tripping the second. “Grrr so angry” she
thinks too herself. “First my house is on fire and now these stupid damn
zombies are attacking me”. She stomps on the head of one of the zombies,
finishing it off (similarly pinkie passed a Citizens Brown Pants test and also
Popped the Weasel on one of the downed zeds).
Over at the store,
the three zombies finish their feast on baseball cap mans wife. They look
hungerly at the stunned, tastie looking human and charge him. The human reacts
quickly though and with his bat he knocks down the first zed and then the
second and by the time the third charges him he’s got his aim perfected and he
smashes its head in (baseball cap man later activates in the turn but is
stunned so can act no further).
Two zombies luge
at Tim. He swings his axe wildly and is able to knock both to the ground but
isn’t able to kill either of them.
As Tim stares at
the two crazed monsters on the ground, a third zombie appears in his peripheral
vision but before he can deal with it, it charges Amanda. “Nooooo” Tim screams
as the zed attacks his missus but Amanda dodges the monster at the last minute
and brings the hammer down on it, knocking it to the ground.
Stunned Tim and
Amanda look at each other “What is going on” they think (Tim and Amanda didn’t
activate this turn and so are still stunned).
Three more zeds
shuffle towards Amanda and Tim, their gait increasing in anticipation of the
warm, tastie brains before them. The couple look on in horror as the zombies
they had just knocked down start to get back up.
The zombies near
hoodie man and pinky start to get up. “Come on Emma,” the hooded man says to
the lady in pink, “Come this way.” They move a safe distance away from the
zombies and then hooded man fires on them. One of the shot hits and throws the
zed to the ground but it doesn’t kill it.
As the two zombies
around baseball cap man start to get up he smashes one in the head with his
baseball bat, putting it down for good (he passes his Citizens Brown Pants
test).
As three zombies
start to charge Amanda from behind, Tim jumps in front of her to protect her (surely
I’m allowed to break the rules just a little bit to save me missus). The first
zed lunges at Tim but Tim chops its head off with the felling axe (yeah baby –
one for us!!!), as the second advances Tim knocks it down. The third though is
able to grab Tim and locks him in hand to hand. The remaining zombies gets up
(note Tim and Amanda didn’t get to activate this round and so are still
stunned).
Sit rep below. It’s
not looking so good for Tim and Amanda.
This encounter is turning into a real "pressure cooker"!
ReplyDeleteOf course it's OK to 'bend' the rules to save your missus - it's one of the joys of ATZ that you bend em as much as you like and they just don't break :-)
Loving the write-ups so please keep em coming - and despite work commitments and other gaming projects, you've got me fired up to get another installment of my own campaign played asap! :-)
Great that you're going to get back into another session for your campaign. I'm looking forward to it.
DeleteYou are certainly right on the pressure side of it. I often just play a couple of rounds and then I've got to have a beer to relax and write it up (hence why it takes a weekend to get through a session).
Oh, man, this just gets better and better. I was surprised and delighted to see the five humans fare so well against the zombies. If they all survive (still a big if) you have the makings of a good team here, providing they decide to stick together.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad I brought that two handed axe and that Amanda is armed as well. It's been the difference in the melee so far. But what I didn't realise is how many Brown Pants tests you've got to take as a citizen. It's really hurting us.
DeleteWhat a fight! I ear though for you and your missus - one of the reason though that I use multiple characteristicsrather than the all-encompassing "REP", you may be a gret leader and a quick thinker, but average at melee or shooting -very hard to replicate with just "REP".
ReplyDeleteYeah. My missus just read the battle reports last night and she said "What you gave me just a little claw hammer whilst you're running around with a friggin axe? Are you crazy? Next time we go out I'm taking the other axe".
DeleteLook at me beaming now. So proud (and to be fair she does do a fair bit of the block splitting when we go camping in the bush so she knows how to really swing an axe hard and accurate).
Tense stuff indeed.
ReplyDeleteAgghh Ed the Citizen's Brown Pants rule.
DeleteYou are a cruel man.
Anyone that has played ATZ should be at least a Rep 4 seeing how it is a bit of a training manual. Just saying. :)
ReplyDeleteYou're a good man Ed. I put it down to challenging myself to see if we could make it and hence the rep 3. Still we're not dead yet and you never know, we could get a rep upgrade at the end of the session.
DeleteIve -still- never played, but from the first I liked what I saw/read about ATZ! Thankfully it seems it can be run solo fairly easily, as that maybe my only option as Apoc games generally have no following locally.
ReplyDeleteNow as for 'Hoodie', I don't blame him, but firing that shot.. that will only attract very Unwanted attention.
